Rodney Bay Things to Do

Rodney Bay sits at the northern end of Saint Lucia and functions as the island’s tourism centre. A natural bay protected by Pigeon Island, it holds the island’s best swimming beach, a working marina, the biggest mall, and the busiest nightlife strip. Travellers staying here spend half their days in the bay itself and the other half on day trips south. This page covers what you can see and do without leaving the area.

Beaches

Reduit Beach

The headline beach. A mile-long curve of powder-fine sand with calm swimming water, a row of beach bars, water-sports operators, and free public access. Mornings are quiet; afternoons get busier.

Pigeon Island Beaches

Two smaller beaches inside Pigeon Island National Landmark. Cleaner water, fewer crowds, and a short causeway walk from the mainland. Good for snorkelling near the rocks.

Pigeon Island National Landmark

A 44-acre park connected to the mainland by a man-made causeway. Inside: 18th-century British fortifications, hiking trails, Fort Rodney’s hilltop view, and the two beaches mentioned above. Walking the park takes 2-3 hours; a guided off-road Segway tour covers it in 90 minutes.

Rodney Bay Marina

The marina is the largest in the Eastern Caribbean, hosting yachts of every size and the starting point for most west-coast sailing tours. The marina restaurants are some of the best in the area — especially Elena’s for ice cream, The Edge for dinner, and Wibisco for casual lunches. Boat charters, including catamaran day trips and sunset cruises, depart from here.

Shopping

Baywalk Mall

The island’s newest mall, with international brands, a casino, a cinema, and several food courts. Good for picking up forgotten essentials, rainy-day browsing, and duty-free shopping.

Rodney Bay Craft Stalls

A row of local artisan stalls along the waterfront selling wood carvings, ceramics, jewellery, and Saint Lucian hot sauces. Better than the cruise terminal for authentic crafts.

Nightlife

Gros Islet Friday Jump-Up

The island’s signature weekly street party, 10 minutes from most Rodney Bay hotels. The main street of Gros Islet closes to traffic, massive speaker stacks set up, and locals and tourists dance, drink, and eat together until the early hours.

Rodney Bay Strip Bars

A concentration of cocktail lounges, sports bars, and late-night clubs along the waterfront. Worth a wander; most stay open until 2 a.m.

Tours from Rodney Bay

Pretty much every Saint Lucia tour picks up in Rodney Bay. Start with our Rodney Bay tours page for the full list. Highlights include the Soufrière day trip, a rainforest zipline, and a beach horseback ride at Cas en Bas.

Food and Drink Highlights

Caribbean Creole, Italian, Japanese, Indian, and American diner food all live within a ten-minute walk of the marina. Local specialties worth trying: green fig and saltfish, coal-pot lobster, Creole goat curry, and fresh rotis. Pair with a Piton beer — the island’s own lager — or a five-year Chairman’s Reserve rum on the rocks.

Planning Notes

Stay in Rodney Bay if you want a mix of beach, nightlife, dining, and easy access to tours. Stay in Soufrière if you want drama and peace. Many visitors split their trip between both — three nights Rodney Bay, three nights Soufrière. Transport between the two is 90 minutes by road.
